Ad-van-ture number three: Sunshine in Shoreham

Xmas was over, in fact 2016 was over and it was a brand new shiny year, so, of course we decided it was the ideal time to go on another ad-van-ture.

It wasn’t quite as ideal as it could have been mind you, we had forgotten to take into account the fact that it was a bank holiday…this of course meant that when we cheerfully set off for the coast, we were met with crowds of people doing the same thing…

This made parking tricky.

Parking is an important part of an ad-van-ture because, although driving is excellent, stopping to see things is also integral to the whole thing!

Anyway, this wouldn’t be much of a story if I was just writing a post to tell you that we went for a drive, failed to park and cam home… so where did we end up I hear you cry?

we ended up in Shoreham, a small coastal town in West Sussex, which, unbeknownst to me, had a Fort dating back to 1857

Shoreham Fort housed members of the Royal Engineers, and later volunteers for 49 years until it became disused. It was reopened and modified in the second world war to be a base for gun emplacements. There is a whole website full of information if you want to go and have a look 😀 Look here

We found it to be an interesting place to wander around and we also took a wander along the water break harbour wall thingy…

See how pretty it was!!

The other thing we did on this trip…was try out the van’s cooking facilities…

Well…I say cooking…I really mean heating…

Well…we boiled a kettle…

Which worked admirably and allowed us to make coffee (and tea) which was lovely and kept us warm while walking about!

  1. Fabulous pictures! The van looks very swish indeed, you can tell it is an adventurous van just by the way it struts about in photos 🙂 Very pleased to note that tea and coffee are readily available, I hope plenty of Bernards were consumed also! But will there ever be possibility of bacon sandwiches within the van? One can but hope… ;

      1. This is good to know! My first thought when confronted with almost anything is ‘will there be a bacon sandwich?’ 😉 I am fully in favour of the frying pan. Grilled is always healthier but there is nothing quite as wonderful as proper fried bacon in a proper frying pan. The co-ordination is surely just showing off… 😀

      2. I agree! Fried bacon is somehow much tastier!!
there will always be bacon sandwiches, coffee, bernards and gin available in my van… just in case you were worried and planning to come ans stay in it 😀
The pan coordination is showing off a little…
what is really showing off it the colour coordinated mini cheese knife 😀

      3. You read my mind – I was already thinking that I would like to come and stay in it. It can be our equivalent of Air Force One!!
Oh my, the cheese knife has really impressed me. Not just because of the co-ordination, but also the fact that it suggests that cheese will also be present 🙂
